At first I didn’t think it was her voice growling but the longer I listened to it the more you can tell it’s her speech pattern. God damn that is some serious vocal ta lent.

Whitechapel is in town tonight, but apparently an anniversary dinner supersedes it...

She’s got a hell of a range. I love sharing this song with people just to see their reaction, it’s one of their most striking because the transition from clean to death metal is so abrupt.

The live version of “Who is gonna be the one” is CRAZY. Super stoked to see them touring here, I’ll be going to that show. This is shaping up to be an epic concert season for me. Hatebreed and Agnostic Front May 22nd, Dropkick Murphy s with Hatebreed in Vegas, now Jinjer...

Yeah, I get what you mean. They are a hard band to listen to casually.
Lately I’ve been jamming on tons of more mellow alt-metal - doom/stoner/desert/space/psychadelic type stuff. Bands like Kyuss, My Sleeping Karma, and some more obsucre ones like 1000mods, Naxatras, etc. It’s my “get shit done” music.

Nice! I saw Hatebreed live at Ozzfest back in like 08 in Hartford CT (they are from Bridgeport so this is basically their hometown show ). They come out without a word and then Jamey Josta screams “A NEW LIFE BEGINS” and they launch into Destroy Everything and the whole crowd just goes completely insane. We were right up front and I thought I was gonna die. It was amazing!
So right now it looks like Iron Maiden in July, Baroness in August, and now Jinjer in September. And I’m always keeping my eyes out for more shows.

Havent heard of them before, but gave it a listen. Definitely my kind of jam! The mix of clean vocals and screaming is great to me here. Kind of the post-hardcore vibe in that sense but I like this style more for sure. I think the only metal bands with a female vocalist I have regularly listened to were Epica as well as Iwrestledabearonce. Always a nice change from the standard formula of metal bands. I’ll definitely listen to more of them, seems like it will be a sick show.

Ahh thats what I was thinking of. It had a black metal vibe in some parts and Opeth was definitely the comparison.

I think it’s gonna be good. I’m also kind of interested in their opener, it’s an “EDM/metal”
band, or at least that’s how it’s described, called The Browning. I wasn’t keen on that description, but I checked them out and I’m basically getting a mix of like Dimmu Borgir, In Flames, and Parkway Drive, in all the right ways. So color me interested now.

I’ve made peace with the fact that I’m just a rock & metal guy. I respect people who have crazy musical tastes; over the years I’ve listened to a bit everything, and my ears and brain are always open to a new sonic experience. But I always come back to metal.

aint nothing wrong with rock and metal
i think i was just destined to be a little off... me mums side of the family are big into their jazz me dads are rockers
so i grew up with luis prima , django reinhardt, the who and black sabbath (amongst many others)
its made me have a pretty broad taste (and... ive got a thing for edm... the bass is soothing to me)

Sorry it didn’t work out. Hope you a t least had a great anniversary celebration.
Also, Whitechapel isn't a band I've paid a ton of attention to, but I am really liking what I've heard off their latest album.

Oh ye ah it was great! T ried bone marrow for the first time. Changed my life. I’ve enjoyed their last three albums. They’re brutal, loud, and relentless. Their last album has some tracks with clean vocals too, and Phil’s not a bad singer.

Hatebreed is by far my favorite band, seen them at least a dozen times, I’ve met Jamey a few times, he remembers me now, lol... Just found out Maiden is coming here in September the day before my birthday, so that will be happening too.

Mmm... marrow is good!
That’s a good description of Whitechapel - brutal, loud, and relentless. The thing is, there are a lot of bands that fit that description, and I don’t think Whitechapel stood out to me before. It’s not that they were bad, and while they certainly have their own unique sound, as a lot of these bands do, it just wasn’t enough to set it apart for me.
However, I heard an interview with Phil, and a lot of the material on the album directly deals with his apparently really screwed up childhood. It’s this interesting crossroads of being a very personal album, and the band flexing their musical muscle a bit, trying some new stuff and pulling it off. Phil is a surprisingly good clean singer, and I just get this vibe from the album that it’s something new and different and still totally Whitechapel. That’s what got it on my radar.

That’s awesome! Only band I’ve met so far is Opeth. It was a weird experience, but very cool, they were super chill.

I s aw my first metal show at age 13 in 1987, Metallica at Red Rocks. Probably averaged around a dozen shows a year since then. The last few years its one or two a year, but for a long time I was seeing shows twenty times a year. You go to enough shows, you start figuring out how to meet the bands. It helps that I was a bouncer at a bar sandwiched between two great venues in Denver for a few years, so a lot of bands came in after their shows, etc. I’ve met Danzig, White Zombie, Slayer, Prince, Motorhead, Hatebreed, Killswitch, Anthrax, and actually partied with a few others like Primus, Suicidal Tendencies, and Danney Carey from Tool...

That’s freaking awesome!
I make usually make it out to 2 or 3 shows a year, give or take. But I think this year is going to be a good one, I got my eye on at least 3 shows.
My only other brush with greatness is I remodel Clutch’s drummer, JP Gaste r’s, kitchen a few years ago. Now I get free tickets any time I want to go see them, which is pretty sweet.
